CSS Selectors Test Suite1 Comment

I’ve been a supporter of Web Standards for a long time. Today I stumbled across this test, and I thought that it was particularly telling:

The CSS Selectors Test Suite

Mozilla Firefox 3 alpha (nightly build of Firefox 3 - 20070625):
From the 43 selectors 32 have passed, 4 are buggy and 7 are unsupported (Passed 369 out of 578 tests)

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4:
From the 43 selectors 26 have passed, 10 are buggy and 7 are unsupported (Passed 357 out of 578 tests)

Safari 3.0.2:
From the 43 selectors 25 have passed, 9 are buggy and 9 are unsupported (Passed 346 out of 578 tests)

IE 7 (7.0.5730.11):
From the 43 selectors 13 have passed, 4 are buggy and 26 are unsupported (Passed 330 out of 578 tests)

Rumor has it though that Opera 9.5 will fully pass this test.

Can you imagine what this would be like?

The ESA (European Space Agency) is looking for recruits (pdf) to participate in a simulated trip to Mars and back by being locked up somewhere in Russia.

I agree with the conclusion here; though, seeing it with Cory is even better! Interesting write-up. I sorta wish the reviewer had stayed in a hostel in the Medina though.

Chief Illiniwek Retires4 Comments

The University of Illinois will retire its mascot, Chief Illiniwek. Ostensibly, the idea of having a Native American mascot is offensive to some; however, I - like many - only have respectful and endearing memories of having “Chief” perform at the games. In my recollection, growing up near Champaign-Urbana, “Chief” would always do a dance as a way to fire up the team, etc. As far as I know, great care was taken to be very honorable, respectful, and authentic in the portrayal.

As a Boilermaker, I wish my conference-mates well and bid a fond farewell to Chief Illiniwek.

When you have bombings in India, you have war going on in Afghanistan, you have war going on in Iraq, you have a war going on in Gaza and South Lebanon, you have Syria and Libya and North Korea actively plotting to defeat the democracies, you have Ahmadinejad, the leader of Iran, saying publicly he wants to defeat the Americans and eliminate Israel from the face of the earth, you have people plotting to blow up New York tunnels, you have Canadians plotting to blow up the Canadian parliament and behead the prime minister… My point is we’re in a war!
