Quite a Day7 Comments

Today was a full day. I did a lot of work for class, and I’m just now finished with one class for the night (circa 2 AM), but my new camera came, and I decided to break a little bit for dinner to shoot Georgetown’s Christmas Stroll 2006. I didn’t really read about the camera yet at all. I just went out and started taking some pictures. As I learn more about it, I’m sure the picture quality will improve. These photos are unedited — a little editing could have helped some of them.

Here’s how I spent my day today:

I worked on my project for my Mobile Computing class for my Masters at UT. Our work is coming along nicely, and I’m excited to see how it stacks up against other projects next week.

As the sun was setting, it was time for a break, so I went outside for a bit to take a few shots, before deciding to go downtown for the Christmas Stroll.

This is one of many floats that I saw, but it makes for a busy picture, so I thought it was interesting.

The square in Georgetown is all lit up for the holidays.

Part of the reason why I went to check out the Christmas Stroll and parade was because I was hungry for one of the County Seat Cafe’s chef salads. They are delicious. Here is a view across from my side of the balcony to the other side.

On my way out, I came across the free-carriage-rides-with-Santa line.

Then, finally, it was a trip to Starbucks and home to finish my work for the night.

Great Scott!2 Comments

I had a productive night last night. I was able to mow, trim, and water - in addition to cleaning my desk and putting together a bookcase.

While I was trimming, my two neighbors in back of my house were outside grilling and caught my attention. They introduced themselves as George and Lorraine. They even introduced me to their two dogs. Lorraine lifted the dachshund up to the fence, so I could “meet” her, and they told their other dog to “say hi.” The dog barked, as if in greeting, upon command.

George and Lorraine were incredibly friendly and asked about the loudness of their dogs and whether they could come over and fix part of the fence sometime. They told me about the other owners and renters surrounding me, and I found out they were from Rhode Island. They have thick accents. Nice folks.

Key In The Lock

I just met my realtor downstairs outside of IBM to get my house keys! :)

That Idea of Home2 Comments

Andrew Largeman: You know that point in your life when you realize the house that you grew up in isn’t really your home anymore? All of the sudden even though you have some place where you put your [stuff] that idea of home is gone.
Sam(antha): I still feel at home in my house.
Andrew Largeman: You’ll see one day when you move out. It just sort of happens one day, and it’s gone. And you feel like you can never get it back. It’s like you feel homesick for a place that doesn’t even exist. Maybe it’s like this rite of passage, you know? You won’t ever have that feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start. It’s like a cycle or something. I don’t know, but I miss the idea of it, you know? Maybe that’s all family really is. A group of people who miss the same imaginary place.
Sam(antha): Maybe.

Yesterday, I closed on my new home. It’s a great feeling, and it made me think of this dialogue from Garden State.
