FlugTag5 Comments

Today is the Red Bull Flugtag. It’s an event where people construct crazy flying/gliding contraptions and launch them over water to see how far they make it. I’m not sure if I’ll be in attendance or not, but it certainly sounds like fun.

If you want to see what this is all about, there’s always YouTube.

Update: I did make it out for this, and it was fun if not a little unimpressive. Something tells me the originators in Austria would be a little disappointed with our version.

CNN on Austin3 Comments

CNN has a write-up on Austin today. It’s an interesting mix of some of the things for which Austin is known. I’m not sure I would have cited/mentioned things exactly as they did.

What would you mention in an article about Austin?

Hamilton Pool5 Comments

This weekend, after we got back from the retreat, a few of us went to Hamilton Pool. It’s a beautiful lagoon that has eroded (I assume) a cave out behind it; it also typically has a beautiful waterfall as well.

It’s been a little dry in Texas though (up until this week), so there was pretty much only a trickle:

We enjoyed the water for quite a while and then went on a hike. We went maybe 2-3 miles, but I was in flip-flops with a sprained ankle - hardcore!
