Site Features4 Comments

I wanted to write a post to highlight a couple features of this site in light of the recent re-launch.

The first feature is the “lifecast” link. As noted elsewhere, my lifecast is based on code by Jeremy Keith. I’ve cleaned up his code to make it validate and customized it to use my own feeds and styling. I use Last.fm to track my music listening, Tumblr to post short updates and interesting links, Twitter to post brief status about what I’m up to, Flickr to upload and display photos, and of course this blog for lengthier posts. The thing that is cool about the lifecast is that it lets you visualize what I do on the web and when, virtually as it happens (though the time-stamping on the Tumblr updates is a little off due to timezone conversions).

The second feature is the calendar. Sometimes when the posting becomes infrequent, people wonder what I’m up to or where I’ve gone. The calendar lets you know what I’m up to as much as I am aware of it myself. Some things have more or less detail, as appropriate, but it’s nice to have others “in the know” without me having to inform them.

I’ve got a few other ideas about things, and the photos are definitely a big item on the “to-do” list, but this highlights two of the current features which may prove interesting/useful to those that follow me on this site.

Introducing: Opus9 Comments

Welcome to lifeasitcomes.com! The transition to this new domain took much longer than I had hoped, but I am back, and you are looking at “Opus.”

When I first started on the design for the rebirth of this site, I went through several drafts. The one that became what you see here, I titled “Opus.” When I first named it that, I thought to myself, “that may be an overly ambitious name.” Now, having launched, I would say it easily represents my best work to-date in the realm of web design. I say that in all modesty, too.

I expect to tweak things here and there over time, but hopefully I can stick it out with this design for some time to come. (One upcoming tweak is the addition of a logo, arriving soon!)
