Here’s some good stuff I’ve been chewing on lately:

Isaiah 45:9-12:
“Destruction is certain for those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot ever argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, `Stop, you are doing it wrong!’ Does the pot exclaim, `How clumsy can you be!’ How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father and mother, `Why was I born? Why did you make me this way?’ ”

This is what the LORD, the Creator and Holy One of Israel, says: “Do you question what I do? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the millions of stars are at my command.”

Psalm 27:14:
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5-6:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Driver Family FAQ #1

February 16th, 2006

People often wonder out loud why there is so much use of the word “Sir” in our family. It is seen most frequently on Cory’s and Kimi’s blogs (mostly because no one can seem to figure out how to comment on mine — it’s not that hard, I promise!).

So, here comes the first-edition of the Driver Family FAQ:

Why does your dad call your brother “Sir?”

The answer, dear friends, stems back to Junior High science class, as many things do. There was a kid named Donny Moberly. Perhaps you know him, perhaps you have no idea who this Donald character could be. Anyway, every time our teacher, Mr Nelson, would ask him to do something he would say, “Okay, Sir” and kinda give this little two-fingered halfway salute that people do sometimes. You know? Not like a full salute. I suppose it’s kinda like on The Transporter where Matt Schulze says “Rule 2″ and holds his first and middle fingers together. Now, imagine making that into a salute.

One day, I wasn’t particularly happy with Mom. I don’t remember why, so I decided to use Donny’s salute and “Okay Sir” on her. Dad started to wonder about this, I guess, and he began calling Cory and I “Sir.” Since that time, it has kinda stuck. Cory, Kimi, and I have picked up the habit from Dad and call him “Sir” in return.

So there you have it.

As it turns out, Dad also calls Kimi “Miss.” This stems from a long-standing tradition of Mom calling Kimi “Miss Kim,” along with many other pet names. Mom’s kinda famous for those.
